When it comes to GOP State Party Chairman…

…Michigan’s Saul Anuzis is the most innovative and technologically-savvy.
I’ve already told you how Saul is using facebook to connect with modern Republicans (which is driving the Democrats crazy).
Most people would rest on their laurels. Good is good enough mentality. Not Saul. Saul is one of the most aggressive communicators I have met — and that’s a good thing in a state like Michigan which has one of the most bias press corps I have ever had to deal with.
So what is Saul up to now? He’s connecting with Republicans in the Upper Peninsula through the use of skype and a webcam.
Here’s a local news piece on it [via YouTube]:
I messaged Saul (via facebook) to ask him about the video-conference and how he plans to deploy this technology to better communicate with Michigan Republicans. His answer:
We plan on expanding the use to as many counties, districts and activists who are willing to use it. This allows for real time communications with the advantage of sharing a “picture” as well as an interactive conversation.
This is especially useful in a big state like ours, where this technology allows us touch base with “out of way” counties and better stay in touch with activists who often times get much less attention than urban areas.
In two days we have had several counties and clubs contact us on how to use this technology in their areas. Several elected officials and former candidates have said they are willing to do periodic call-ins and give activists an update on what they are up to.
This is just one more tool that will allow our grassroots activist to stay closer in touch with party leaders, elected officials and fellow grassroots activist to help elect Republicans.
As our national Party and Presidential campaigns continue to get lapped online by the Democratic Party and its respective candidates, Michigan is one bright spot on the map where the innovators are Republicans. And shockingly, it’s a blue state (for now).
If I were close to the folks at the RNC, I’d recommend tapping Saul to some national role where he works with other State Party GOP Chairman on implementing an effective online strategy and therefore, actually communicating their message.
I’m going to dish out a nice helping of porridge to Saul and the Michigan Republican Party for continuing to break new ground through a smarter embrace of available technology.
Perhaps Saul would be willing to hold an online town-hall meeting throughout the nation with Republicans similar to MoveOn?
UPDATE 12:02 PM: My good friend Robert Bluey has been making similar calls for some time.

[...] So instead of crying over spilled milk, here’s my suggestion for how the GOP could get its groove back. It’s not a new idea, but something which I’ve been talking about for a while. [...]
