Michigan GOP Chairman first to open facebook
Posted by David on March 5th, 2007
The Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, Saulius Anuzis, or simply “Saul” as he is known around Michigan and national Republican circles, has become the first state party chairman to launch a facebook profile to better connect with modern Republicans.
Saul gets it.
He’s been actively blogging every single day and blasting his “Articles of Interest” to a wide net of Michigan and national Republicans. But he doesn’t just blog incessantly. He’s at every single Republican (or Democratic) event in Michigan and he’s always a known quantity at national gatherings like CPAC.
Saul exemplifies a true modern Republican party chairman. He makes an effort to know and understand conservative bloggers and actively engages the discussion at their blogs.
Presently, the Republican Party is bleeding and conceding Gen Next to the Democrats. With Saul’s help, maybe we can turn that ship around in Michigan.
Last year, Marc Ambinder of the Hotline blog said this of Saul:
In Michigan, All will join another Republican media innovator. Saul Anuzis, the state party chairman, was the first and is the only Republican Party state chair to spend time each day actually blogging and actually blogging something worth reading.
His posts contain insider nuggets about the latest ads put out by Team GOP, his daily thoughts on Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D), unblinkered calendar information about visits by upcoming presidential candidates, and updates from meetings of county chairs and major fundraisers.
Anuzis’s penchant for transparency has made some Republicans at upper levels of the GOP nervous and led some others to conclude that he subtly plays favorites, but his posts don’t reveal strategy or tactical decisions. And the success of the Michigan GOP at reaching and exceeding party goals speaks for itself.
I had the pleasure of working with Saul last year during Mike Bouchard’s Senate campaign. He was a great resource then, and he continues to be a great leader in the modern world for Michigan Republicans.
Welcome to facebook Saul.
And while you are the first. Let’s hope, for our Party’s sake, that you’re not the last.
